Thursday, July 8th, 2010
Hard Rock Cafe PinsRight up there with Disney pins, and Olympic pins are Hard Rock Cafe Pins. These pins are extremely popular, and are available in great numbers. I see Hard Rock pins at just about any pin trading event I attend. Most of the Hard Rock pins I’ve seen and come to collect are simply awesome. The design and quality is superb and they’re always unique and completely cool. From guitar designs, to pin up girls, and even collector sets, Hard Rock pins are a fantastic way to supplement your collection. You can even build a brand new collection out of just Hard Rock pins and never run out of new pins to acquire. There are new pins coming out all the time, and even antique pins that fetch quite a bit of money on the ‘used’ market. If you’ve been looking for a new idea for pins to collect, you owe it to yourself to check these out!

Pin Trading Events

Monday, June 7th, 2010
Every year, there are dozens of pin trading events held across the country, and the world. Many of them are Disney events, Olympic events, and Sporting events (little league baseball, USSSA softball, etc). There are a lot of other pin trading events going on as well, such as the Lions Club International. The Lions Club has a busy pin trading event schedule, and there’s actually one coming up in just a few days on June 12th, 2010. Disney, of course, has a booked calendar for pin trading events, which can be seen here. There’s even a podcast dedicated to pin trading. Whatever your favorite type of pins to collect, chances are there is a pin trading event going on somewhere that you can find many more pins to add to your prized collection.

Nasa Pins

Nasa 50th Anniversary Pin

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, has released mission pins, and several other lapel pins over the decades. These pins have become extremely collectible, some honoring the men and women of the space program, others stamping into time the dates of missions past, present and future. NASA lapel pins have a certain allure about them. They are released by the agency that sends human beings into outerspace… there’s something to be said for that! Most NASA pins feature the NASA logo, mission details, or craft details, such as space shuttle information, launch dates, rocket details, or astronaut information. There are several NASA pins available for purchase through several online retailers that specialize in them, I’ve outlined some below for your browsing pleasure. Lapel PinsIn the world of lapel pin collecting, there are certain things one looks for when choosing a pin to keep, or a pin to toss. One of these factors is the type, or style, of pin. The type of lapel pin can play a big part in selecting pins for your collection. Many times it comes down to simply how the pin looks, the quality of the finish, the luster and the general appearance of the lapel pin. Pin styles vary drastically, and each style was developed to accomplish a certain goal, and with certain design characteristics in mind. I’ll run you through some of the core styles of lapel pins, ranging from the most popular, to the most expensive, and beyond. Let’s begin, shall we? (more…)

Biker lapel pins are extremely popular amongst collectors, and typically depict the persona of motorcycle riders from all over the world. From Maltese crosses with skulls, to motorcycle club logos, biker pins come in a wide range of styles and designs, and are a very cool collectible. They happen to personally be one of my favorite styles of lapel pins to collect, because they are internationally available, meaning that because motorcycle clubs (and biker gangs) exist all over the globe. Custom Challenge Coins

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010
I’ve collected Challenge Coins for a few years, and I’ve always stuck primarily to army and other military coins. Recently I was discussing the topic on a coin collecting forum when the subject of collecting custom challenge coins came up. “How are custom challenge coins different from the coins I’ve been collecting?” I asked. The answer to my question came from a veteran military officer, and long-time challenge coin collector. He said that in fact, the coins I’ve been collecting are custom. He went on to describe that most coins civilians collect were designed and manufactured specifically for battalions and military posts. (more…)

How to Collect Lapel Pins

So you’ve got yourself a pretty nice stamp collection and you’re thinking about starting to collect something else. You’ve considered quarters, but what 12 year old and his grandmother don’t collect quarters, right? You could collect bottle caps or antiques, there are plenty of expensive collectibles out there, but you want to keep it small, and affordable. “What can I collect?” you ask yourself. Lapel Pins. Not only are lapel pins affordable and small, they’re out there in huge numbers. There are a ton of lapel pins worthy of collecting out there, and many have a great cause or meaning.
